“Son de la Ma’ Teodora” is one of the earliest surviving Cuban son. The original song is very simple, containing only a 12-bar melody that gets repeated many many times, and two piano solos. I was given the task of making an exciting arrangement for my Latin American Chamber Ensemble, which is why the instrumentation is so odd. The ensemble’s instrumentation was always growing and changing, so feel free to switch it up if you’re so inclined.
